Inspirational Vignettes

In my head, I always had the idea that there would be little vignettes or interludes shot on 16mm film by our male protagonist. But with the recent popularity of HDSLR cameras there has been much footage posted to Vimeo by guys testing out their equipment on their girlfriends. Every time I see these clips I’m immediately brought back to the idea. Recently I stumbled upon Scott Foley, a young filmmaker who posts little portraits and short films shot mainly on a Canon T2i with a 50mm lens, my current camera kit (not to mention he uses a font similar to mine). To me, they look as if they are films the character would have made, and they could eventually inspire these little vignettes throughout the movie.

In A Rough Nutshell

I’ve been wanting to make something in the similar vein as “Bend & Break” but focus the story around only one couple just out of college. The idea started out as two artists, one a filmmaker and one a stage actress, who can’t find work in their fields after graduation (hits close to home for many twentysomethings right now). So in order to make money and start a life together they plan to rob a bank. It then turns into a slight bit of road-bandit movie, but the bank robbery becomes the event that allow the characters to discover things about their relationship that were hidden in plain view. It’s kind of a “Puffy Chair” meets “Bonnie & Clyde.” More to come soon…

And So It Begins

STEALING JOY is my second feature film endeavor (my first film being “Bend & Break”). Though this is a working title and the story will be going through many changes from concept to final cut.

The idea for STEALING JOY is mostly fueled by my desire to make a more intimate character-driven film with strong parts that both my girlfriend (Lacy Prince) and I could play, that could be shot on a low-budget here in Texas. I look forward to going through the process with her, as she will most-likely post some entries as well. I will go into more detail about the project in future posts. This blog will used for updates and to track the progress of the film as we move it down the trail.

Enjoy the ride…
